Any zine-related stuff

Everywhere All The Time #2 Now Available on Etsy!

Everywhere All The Time #2: Bright Sunny Days, Dark Sacred Nights is the second issue of my travel media zine featuring stories from a year spent traveling and living in Ecuador. From hiking in the northern highlands to a shack on the Pacific coast, the zine spans terrain, time and mood through text and black and white photos. The writing is influenced by my identities – queer, mestiza, POC, feminist, writer, weirdo – and is cut by quotes from Junot Díaz, Gloria Anzaldúa and James Baldwin. 36 pages, typewritten/handwritten and some computer writing, black and white with color cover. Bright Sunny Days, Dark Sacred Nights

had to post this again ’cause of some technical shit. nevermind! this is what i meant by “cutting up celestial maps” last week, some scans of the forthcoming issue of everywhere all the time (EAT?) now i just have to print all the text out on vellum in a way that makes sense. in other news, i got a day job and can now take care of my financial bizness/work on my writing without worrying about the bills. let me know what you think of the layout, or any other advice you zine sages might have.

i’m collecting travelogues, lists, adventure stories, thoughts on place, and pretty much anything poignant and written well for a spanish-language anthology of travel stories in latin america. spanglish or english is cool too, since we’ll be translating it for an english edition (but if you can, spanish please!) zine will be half page, black and white. no need to send your art in in b+w, just keep in mind it will be copied that way. 1,000 word entry limit, but we’re flexible. send whatever you got to heyitsbani@gmail.com by september 15. internationally-syndicated multi-lingual zine yo, get in on this! tell EVERYONE. baniamor.com.

Anthony Bourdain and the Lunar Eclipse

guess who finished a zine? thank you, lunar eclipse: through your little window of mantic possibility i slipped in a project millions of years (it seemed) in the making. of course, i’ve left on a trip today so it may be another week before it mails out, but i’m bringing the mother copy with me in the hopes of finding a copyshop and post office in the little fishing villages of the ecuadorian coast i’m heading to. sounds pretty impossible but i’m stubborn and bringing that shit with me, reality can eat it! or something.

shout out to vellum

mailing costs from here are pretty wack, so now’s the best time to order the zine. again, i’m open to discounts, trades, whatevs. it isn’t perfect, but i’m so relieved it’s over so that i can get started with the second issue. if you’re into travel writing, photography and zines, you’ll like it, trust. by the way, if you’re an illustrator or designer or otherwise-inclined embellish-er of things, get in touch! i wanna work with you (re: i suck at sketching.)

i will be documenting some grassroots community projects here (ecuadorian coast) as well as writing about my time in yoga camps and whatnot, so if you’re around and know of any news of that sort; are an editor and want to publish my sage scribbles; or just a traveler wanting to say hi, holla! you can do that at heyitsbani at gmail dot com.

that time i wore a turban

i just got through with interviewing a really awesome person (RAP?) and am stoked to tell you all about it once the story’s out. also also also, keep checking the fb page ’cause i’m updating it a lot more now with traveling/POC/feminist/outdoorsy/queer/zine matter, which, if you haven’t discerned yet, is what i’m all about.

in other news, last night i dreamt that anthony bourdain was singing that gogol bordello song ‘start wearing purple’ to me somewhere in subterranean macau. ambien is most likely to blame.

chao!

It’s All Happening

hey kids,

it’s all happening. if you haven’t seen almost famous, you’ve missed the ref. (and what’s up with you anyway? go see almost famous!) this past weekend i made a TON of headway in the Zine World and should be done this week, but y’all know i’ve been making that promise since december (major thanks to all the folks who’ve ordered and been super patient.)

basically, and this’ll make sense to other (newbie) zine writers out there, it took me so long to get the layout in order ’cause i’m shitty with numbers and all that stuff, and when i finally had the cash to get the base mother copy copied, the dude flipped the pages around and messed up the layout. also, part of my typewriter was melted in a house fire, so using it became an EXTREME pain in the ass, and that’s in addition to all the other analog issues it already has. again, other typewriter users will know what i’m sayin’.

so, started from scratch, using my photocopied images, some new ones, vellum, contact paper, graph paper and copies of sketches. i made (er, am making) the mother copy as it would appear in it’s final form, then will lay it out on pages for photocopy time. either zinemaking is more difficult than others seem to lead on or, i’m a dumbass.

i’ve taken out a lot of stuff, added in new stories and am trying to make it a good looking read overall. so if you haven’t ordered, please do! you can skim the Freestyle section of this site to get a feel for the kinda stories the zine carries. if $10 is too much for you, we can work out a reduced rate with trade, or just a reduced rate. i’m into all sorts of exchanges. free shipping to anywhere in the world!

it’s very exciting to see this thing finally being born, like for reals this time.
